Is sodium bad for your health?

Updated: May 6, 2018

Did you know sodium is in almost everything? High sodium consumption causes water retention and puffy skin. This can cause you to hold on to unwanted weight. Excess sodium is also is not very well digested. It makes it difficult to digest food when there is a ton of sodium in it. Of course, some sodium is okay but most packaged food contain a very high amount. Long term affects of excess sodium can cause serious health problems. If you are going to salt your food, try using himalayan or rock salt. It is a healthier alternative to table salt.

For example, spaghetti and pasta sauces typically contain 400+ mg!!! This is why I decide to make my own sauce at home. There are tons of recipes online but I usually just throw in a bunch of cherry tomatoes, a couple heirloom or roma if I have them, basil, oregano, pepper, thyme, pink himalayan salt, 3 cloves of garlic, half an onion, a little pure maple syrup, and some nutritional yeast. I don't really measure out ingredients, I just wing it every time! Just blend it up in any blender and it's ready to serve!
